MARRIAGE ENRICHMENT COURSE WEEK 4- the enticement is the homebaking

Uncooked cinnamon roll buns.Image via WikipediaThe Marriage Enrichment course being held at St. Francis of Assisi  has continued to have good attendance. The formula of food works well! I go anticipating the good home baking of Jennifer Lay, one of the chaplain's wife, who is a leader. This week we were given a fruit flan cheesecake with home made graham cracker- oatmeal base! Last week it was home made fresh cinnamon buns. The week before it was Sex in a Pan! I am surprised that Bob and Jennifer Lay are so svelt! .
The course participants vary for almost newly weds to those of us in the 30 plus range. As we stay in couples there is not much discussion between the groups other than at snack time! We are fortunate in having such generous leaders who donate time to prepare a pleasant atmosphere with small tables lit by tea lights. Our break with home baking and coffee, regular and herbal teas is the highlight of the evening as some of the discussion for the Marriage course can be intense .

we are continuing to follow the  8 week course based on the video and manuals from  www:themarriagecourse.ca.
so far we have focused on Building Strong Fouondations, the Art of Communication, Resolving Conflict and this week The Power of Forgiveness. Next week we will focus on The Impact of Family_ Past and Present..

However I am looking forward to the home baking!
We have had Bob Lay. Shaun Turner and Raachid Khadij  as chaplain support.

Friends in high places

As many of you know I have been volunteering at the chapel on base for many years. This morning I received the Base Commanders Commendation. I was told about it last Thursday by the Base chaplain so thought the recommendation came from the chapel however I found out after wards that a member of the congregation and former base commander Lt. Col. Bob McBride wrote the recommendation! Thank you Bob.
The text of the award states:
Base Commander’s Commendation is awarded to Hilda Young in recognition of her outstanding contribution to chapel life at St. George’s Church. For several years she has been the driving force behind community relations within the chapel. She organized a newsletter and has faithfully published this for over 5 years using her own resources. She routinely provides articles to the Petawawa Post and Pembroke Observer. Her dedication encompasses maintaining a pictorial history of the chapel which she shares with the entire congregation. She has stepped in on many occasions when others would not and has served faithfully as the Chapel Committee Secretary. She is a fine example to all within the congregation of St. George’s and a credit to her faith.
It was presented by the Base Commander Lt. Col Rudderham

Small town connections

I am a frequent customer at my local Shoppers drug mart. Most of my trips to the store involve getting photos printed of personal and chapel events. Today is Shrove Tuesday so we had our annual Pancake supper at the chapel.I thought I would be efficient and get the photo printed immediately. "Tina" the head cashier for the shift and the "photo expert" said the photos turned out ok but one was blurry as I was focused on the garbage can and not the man. (Actually two were blurry) Anyway "Tina" recognized "Bob" as she used to clean in building B12 on base. She also recognized Sharon Slaney and her mom.
So a lesson in living in a small town. Make sure your photos of anyone local are clear and tell a story as you never know who will be printing the photos.
